Thank You Notes | Tips & Tricks

Let's face it: Thank You Notes are an ongoing task from the moment you get engaged or have another life-changing milestone in your life. Receiving gifts from your wedding registry is thrilling, but it doesn't take much to get behind on giving thanks. Today, we have some tips and tricks to help make writing your notes much more manageable, from how to keep track to what to say.

Keep an organized spreadsheet of all your guest’s names and addresses.

You probably already have this! It's called your Wedding Guest List. Create a column for any gifts you receive from each guest. In fact, create a column for Engagement Gift, Bridal Shower Gift, and Wedding Gift. This way you’ll be able to find everything you need in one place.

Be specific about who gave you what.

In the case of multiples of the same present, you want to be sure of which of the five hand towel sets Aunt Shirley gave you. Say a few words about the gift, i.e. “monogrammed hemstitch guest towels” and she'll appreciate that you really noticed the effort she put in.

Find stationery that you love.

It’ll make writing notes more fun if you’re doing it on something pretty! Also, using a good pen goes a long way (no one has time for hand cramps, am I right?). Sharpie pens are our favorite. We LOVE these personalized stationery sets from Lairsey Paper Co. And don't forget the address stamp!

Write your notes as you receive gifts.

Not always will your guests bring presents to the shower or your wedding, but will have them delivered directly to your home instead. As soon as a gift gets opened take a second to write a note. This eliminates any worry of forgetting someone or trying to get them all done in one sitting. If that seems too time-consuming, then pour a glass of wine and make this a weekly ritual.

If you were given money, write about what you might plan to use it for.

“Thank you so much for the generous check. [Spouse] and I will be putting it towards our honeymoon…” It will make your guests feel special to know what they helped you accomplish with their money

It’s okay to cheat if you need to.

There are samples all over the internet of how to say thank you for different gifts. Obviously don’t copy them verbatim, but if you feel like you are in a rut and need a guide, use them as a start and make them personal for your guests.
