Baby Shower Details Not to Miss

Baby Showers have to be in the top three socials we just love to plan. Nothing compares to the anticipation of a new little one, and the warmth you can feel around the room makes the party oh-so-sweet. We have a method for designing these darling celebrations, and the key: certain details you don't want to miss!

The Story

We dare not say that you must have a "theme" but you'll want to choose a look & feel. The story you want to tell. Whether it's an actual storybook that inspires the affair (like the Velveteen rabbit), a garden party that you're aiming for (complete with blooms and butterflies), or just a true baby blue to welcome baby boy, decide on a design direction and go for it.

Little Things

From invites to favors, it's the little touches that are the loveliest. Curate a collection of paper goods and details that work with the event, but don't strive for matchy-matchy. An intentionally placed monogram, a collection of vintage stamps, a grouping of pillows in the hues of the party - it's the bitty things that count.

Wow Moment

Choose one focal point or wow moment. We've dolled up mantles, incorporated many a balloon arch, and even placed a giant teepee mid-backyard to make a statement. Oftentimes showers are thrown at home, but no need to hire an interior decorator just to host this event. We find that making a single spot look grand goes a long way, while smaller accents can dress up the rest of the space.

Oh-So-Sweet

The meal should match the moment - keep it seasonal, fresh, and easy to eat, and you can't go wrong. But the sweets are a place to shine. Opt for a small cake and mini desserts. Consider the cravings of mama-to-be, and if she has a sweet tooth for chocolate or can't get enough of donuts, indulge her a bit. Add a couple dozen perfectly decorated cookies to turn a boring table into a beautiful display.

Get Sentimental

Gift a keepsake from the special day. Whether it is wishes for the little one, a dried bouquet of blooms from the celebration, or a collection of party polaroids for the mama-to-be, she'll cherish a memento from her shower. And this leads us to one of our most important details...

Capture the Day

Don't forget the photographer! Chip in to in someone to capture this sweet occasion. If it's not in the budget, delegate a trusted attendee to snap the photos. The Guest of Honor will be able to reminisce on the event when she sees her happy tears during the gift opening, the hug from her own mother who is welcoming the next generation, or the group of ladies that loved her so well.

Bonus:

And as a bonus, we give you the not-so-glamourous, but best baby shower secrets:

  • Choose a comfy chair for mama. That belly doesn't make it so easy to move around.

  • Keep the party short and sweet, 2-3 hours is perfect.

  • Have a gal pal or two dedicated to handing mama gifts to be opened. And while you're at it, choose a thoughtful bestie to write down what you've received (and from whom), and a helpful BFF to collect all of the gift wrap and ribbons. Don't forget a trash bag!

  • Keep the honoree's trunk empty to bring gifts home - even better if her other half can help load and unload the car.

  • Put one or two ladies in charge of games & prizes.
